At the start of June colleagues from the Student Learning Service (SLS) will be running a series of workshops and drop-in sessions in the Sir Duncan Rice Library to help taught postgraduate students as they begin their dissertations.

These will take place between June 5 and 9 and the sessions on offer include:

Writing a Literature Review – how to approach and undertake a review of the literature in your subject.

Writing your Dissertation / Project: Spelling, Paragraph Structure and Constructing an Argument – This interactive workshop will stress the importance of writing with a reader in mind. To engage the reader, writing should be logical, coherent and clearly argued.  Through practical exercises, we will examine the significance of accurate spelling, paragraph structure and construction of an argument.

There will also be a Maths Drop-in Session in the Sir Duncan Rice Library for those students needing some guidance with mathematics in their dissertation or project. To get this assistance simply come to the co-labs on Floor 5 of the Library where a colleague from the SLS will be on hand to help. No need to book this, just come along between 10 am and 12 noon with your maths questions.

These sessions are in addition to Information Skills Workshops offered by the library and Word Formatting Sessions offered by IT Services. And don’t forget that library staff are here all summer to help with any problems you may have accessing and managing information for your dissertation or project.
