We are pleased to announce that from Monday 26 April, as Scotland moves to Level 3 restrictions, we will be extending opening hours at The Sir Duncan Rice Library and the Medical Library (Foresterhill campus). Also, the Taylor Library will be reopening.
The Sir Duncan Rice Library and the Taylor and Medical libraries will all be open for our students and staff:
- Monday-Friday 09:00-20:00
- Saturday & Sunday13:00-17:00

From 26 April we will also be able to offer research access, on an appointment only basis, to University of Aberdeen staff and students. For more details, please see https://bit.ly/2QNtHs4.
As of Monday 26 April the Hardback Café in The Sir Duncan Rice Library will also be open Monday-Thursday 10:30-19:00 and Friday 10:30-17:00.
Service changes will also see an increase in seating capacity at all library sites. Access to bookshelves will also be restored. Please note that Floor 1 of The Sir Duncan Rice Library will continue to be kept free of study spaces. Study spaces will be available from floors 2 through to 7.
Our Click and Collect service will continue.
All Covid safety rules remain in place, including the wearing of face coverings at all times and a restricted number of study spaces.
If you do visit our libraries, please be aware that all the rules we put in place in 2020 still apply. These measures exist to ensure that we are keeping both you and our staff safe. Support us by taking time to read them and please observe the rules without requiring Library staff to remind you.

Welcome to all our new and ‘returning’ students.
If you would like to take a look around, or begin preparations for your courses, The Sir Duncan Rice Library will be open this Sunday, 6th September, from 11.00 to 17.00 in advance of term opening hours which begin on Monday 7th. The Hardback Cafe, located on the Ground Floor of the Library, will be open from 11.30 to 15.00.
For anyone near the Foresterhill Campus, the Medical Library is open from 09.00 to 22.00 on Saturday 5th, and 13.00 – 22.00 on Sunday 6th September.
The Sir Duncan Rice Library (TSDRL) will remain CLOSED today, Monday 24 August 2015, due to an ongoing power outage.
A thesis and dissertation printing and binding service is available from the UniPrint office at 23 St Machar Drive, Aberdeen, AB24 3RY, tel. +44 (0)1224 272825 (building 3 on the Old Aberdeen campus map). Work previously submitted to the Print Shop in TSDRL can be collected from the UniPrint office. Please note the UniPrint office is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
If you are looking for a study space please join us in Taylor Library (building 20 on the Old Aberdeen campus map). Medical Library (building 10 on the Foresterhill campus map) is also open (opening hours). Datastream is available on 3 PCs in Room 106 in the MacRobert Building for Business students requiring access to this software.
Books can be returned to Taylor Library or Medical Library.

If you need to use Datastream software today, Friday 21st August, and over the weekend, it has been installed temporarily on 3 PCs in the MacRobert Building (building 17 on the King’s Campus map), room 106 (first floor). Look out for ‘Datastream Enabled’ posters on the PCs.

Study spaces, PCs and MFDs (for printing, scanning and photocopying) are available in both libraries.
The NHS Grampian Archives which hold the historic records of more than 100 hospitals and health organisations from across the Grampian region, have been located within Special Collections for over a year now.
Archivist Fiona Watson has retired and the new archivist is Fiona Musk, former archivist with Aberdeen City Council Archives.
Please note also that there are new opening hours. The NHS Grampian Archive is now open from Wednesday to Friday.

A pilot of 24-hr opening for The Sir Duncan Rice Library will be in operation from Sunday 23rd November to Thursday 18th December, 2014. During this period you should be aware that:
- Swipe access only after 22.00 hrs – please ensure you have your ID card, as access will not be permitted without it.
- Essential cleaning of the building will be carried out overnight between 2 am and 6 am, which may result in some disruption.
- The PCs require a nightly shutdown lasting about ten minutes, and reboot for essential maintenance. This will happen at 4.00am, and you will be given an option to delay this for 2 hours.
- Look after yourselves and your belongings – take breaks, but don’t leave your personal belongings unattended.
- Take care if leaving the Library in the early hours – travel with friends if possible.
- Please respect the building and your fellow library users: eat and drink only in the provided café area on the ground floor, and keep talk to the group study areas to allow others to study.
- Report any problems to security staff on duty – in person, or by phone – Information Centre Floor 1 or tel. 01224 273330
- The last day for 24 hour opening is Thursday 18th – Friday 19th December.
