Room 124 – improvements coming

As of Monday 11 June there will be work taking place in Silent Study Room 124
(Floor 1) of The Sir Duncan Rice Library as we re-purpose the space, to make it better fit your needs. There will be some disruption as this work takes place, and for that we apologise in advance. We will do all we can to keep any inconvenience to a minimum, but the summer months are the only time when such work can take place. The exact timing of this work is still to be confirmed but we will put out further information via our social media once we have firm dates.

In the meantime, if you need a silent space to study why not use the silent study rooms in the south west corner of Floors 3, 4 and 5? These rooms were recently equipped with power and USB sockets allowing you to work from your laptop in a silent environment.

For more information on our Silent Study spaces, click here.

INFO: Library – wired access to network

Almost 140 study desks in The Sir Duncan Rice Library now have wired access to the University network. Look for the study desks that have blue eduroam stickers on the network ports next to the power sockets. The desks are available on Floors 1 – 7 and although mainly located along the windows on the east and west of the building, this isn’t the case for every floor.

A short network cable is installed at each relevant computer – please do not remove the cable.

If you do not want to use the wi-fi service instructions on how to access the network using the wired service are available from http://bit.ly/RhawCR or use the QR barcode given on the instruction notice next to the eduroam network port. Following the instuctions will ensure that your laptop is correctly configured to use the wired service.

Comments and feedback on the wired service are welcome. If you have any technical difficulties please contact the IT service desk servicedesk@abdn.ac.uk or speak with the member of IT staff on the IT help desk at the Floor 1 Information Desk in The Sir Duncan Rice Library (Monday – Friday – core hours).

The PCs in PC classrooms 1, 2 and 3 (Rooms 226, 227 and 230) of  The Sir Duncan Rice Library (TSDRL) will be upgraded on Thursday 25 July. The PCs should be available for use later in that afternoon. Specialised software installed in PC classroom 3 (Room 230) will take longer to upgrade and may not be available until late on Friday afternoon.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused – please use alternative PCs which are located throughout the library.

INFO: student PCs being upgraded – this week

The classroom and ad-hoc PCs in the University Library are being upgraded this week. This is taking place in a rolling programme across all of the floors. Apologies for any inconvenience caused – just go up or down a floor or two if the PCs are being upgraded at your normal location. The new classroom image will have Office 2010 available (current PCs have Office 2007).
