Did you know…? How to return books in TSDRL

Did you know the quickest and easiest way to return library books is at the Returns Room through the self-return machines? You will find the Returns Room on the Ground Floor of the Sir Duncan Rice Library, to the right of the main entrance.

It’s as simple as placing the books through the slot one by one. They are removed from your borrowing record as soon as they have passed through. You don’t even need to use your ID card to return books this way.

You will also find an external slot on the right-hand side of the entrance to the Library. This is only available when the library is closed so you don’t need to wait for us to open to return your books! You will need your ID card to be able to use this.

Don’t forget to take your receipt as proof of your returned items.

Heavy Demand books can be returned in the Heavy Demand Area on Floor 1 (using the self-issue/returns machine), or at the Returns Room.

If you have any problems with book returns, please speak to any member of staff, or email library@abdn.ac.uk.

New equipment in The Sir Duncan Rice Library

New IT equipment has been installed in The Sir Duncan Rice Library this summer.

More specifically:

  • Dual monitors in PC Classroom 3 (Room 230, Floor 2 of The Sir Duncan Rice Library) have been superseded by more up-to-date single landscape monitors.
  • Most student PCs have been replaced with all-in-one units which will hopefully maximise the desk space available. (all Floors)

  • New self-service machines have been installed on the Ground Floor and on Floors 1, 4 and 6 of The Sir Duncan Rice Library. The older kiosks on Floors 3, 5 and 7 have been removed. Users can borrow, check their borrower record and renew items on loan, using the self-service machines on the Ground Floor and on Floors 1, 4 & 6.

To be able to borrow and renew items using the self-service machines, you just need your student ID and a PIN. This is a four-digit number of your choice, which you can set up with a member of staff at the Information Centre on Floor 1 or at the Information Points and offices on Floors 3, 4, 5, and 6.

For details on borrowing and returning books, see our post from last week!
