ScienceDirect books are mobile friendly!

sciencedirect_longDo you know that you can download one, selected, or all chapters from a book on ScienceDirect on to your computer or your mobile device? To find out how to do this follow the instructions on Elsevier’s Online Books Connect blog.

The ScienceDirect site is mobile friendly too, so you can view full text online, or view/download chapters directly from the site via the browser on your mobile device. You can also download any HTML article or book chapter in Mobi (Kindle) or ePub format. This must be done on a computer and the files transferred to any eReader device that supports these file types. Instructions for ScienceDirect ePub and Mobi downloads are available online.

Access ScienceDirect via our electronic resources portal, Primo. Open the Find Databases link at the top of any Primo page and simply type ScienceDirect in the Name box. Use the link provided to navigate to the database.

Library on the move

My Account area in Primo on the Library app

My Account area in Primo

Did you know there is an app for Library, Special Collections and Museums (LSC&M) on the University’s iAberdeen app for iOS and Android smart phones?

The library app lets you search across LSC&M catalogues using our resource discovery tool, Primo. Key features include an option to login to My Account where you can view and renew your loans, view your requests for books, check for messages from the library, and view details of favourite titles saved to your personal e-Shelf.

Once logged in you are able to make an advance booking on an item from a Heavy Demand collection, recall a book out on loan to someone else, and request an item to be delivered to your home library from a remote store or library on a different campus.

We think this app offers a quick and easy way of accessing our catalogues, linking to our electronic resources, and much more – wherever you are, even when you are on the move!

For more information and barcodes to download the app to your smart phone see the University’s iAberdeen Mobile app web page. Answers to some frequently asked questions are also available online.

Windows smart phone owners can make use of a mobile version of iAberdeen.

Let us know what you think – please email factsheet@abdn.ac.uk.
