Due to some necessary work in the accessible toilets on all floors of the Library there will be some drilling taking place today. We apologise for any disturbance caused by this work.
There will be vital work carried out on the roof of The Sir Duncan Rice Library on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th of March 2019 and we would like to apologise in advance for any noise resulting from the work.
The disturbance, if any, will be most noticeable on Floors 6 and 7. Alternatively, the Taylor Library is also open on the Old Aberdeen campus.

Wolters Kluwer will be performing maintenance on Ovid on Sunday, October 7th from 02:00 to 05:00 in the morning and again on Sunday October 14th from 02:00 to 05:00 in the morning. Users may experience login issues for up to one hour during these time periods.

We have been informed that on Sunday 19 August, Ebook Central, RefWorks and databases on the ProQuest platform will be unavailable for approximately 8 hours, from 03:00 to 11:00 BST. This time will be used to perform important maintenance of the ProQuest infrastructure.
During this time Write-n-Cite users may notice a degradation in the system so we recommend not using Write-n-Cite during this time. All references will be maintained and available to users upon completion of the process.

Due to an IT and AV refurbishment, PC classrooms 1, 2 and 3 (Rooms 226, 227 and 230) on Floor 2 of The Sir Duncan Rice Library will be unavailable for use from Monday 23 July – mid-August. We apologise for the inconvenience, but the summer months are the only time when such work can take place. There are other PCs available around the Library, but to find a PC elsewhere on campus check out IT Services’ free PC app at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/mobile/free-pcs/. Please also note that the Taylor Library is open from 09:00 to 17:00 over the summer period. Taylor Library’s PC classroom is located on Level 2 of Block C.

Across our three libraries our silent study rooms are popular places to study, and they prove even more popular as the exams approach. See below for help in locating these silent study spaces at this important time, and remember that you can speak with library staff if you are being disturbed by others while you study.
The Sir Duncan Rice Library
There are a range of study spaces across this library, including silent ones. Many of our silent study spaces have recently had power sockets and USB charging points installed, meaning that you can now study in silence and still use your laptops and other electronic devices. We still ask that you do not eat in any of the silent rooms as that can be a great distraction to others. For full details of our silent study spaces see below:
Medical Library
The whole top floor of the Medical Library is designated as silent study space. You are permitted to use laptops and other electronic devices in that area.
Taylor Library
You will find the silent study areas within the Taylor Library in the D Block sections. There are silent areas on both floors of D Block, with different rules around laptop use in different areas. Each desk is clearly marked, to let you know whether or not you can use latops or other electronic devices.

The Web of Science database may be intermittently unavailable this coming Sunday, April 10 due to systems maintenance. The maintenance window is 13:00 to 16:00 BST.
There may be occasional outages to Web of Science throughout this time and it is expected that there will be two instances of downtime, each 15 minutes in length.
They apologise to users for any disruption and inconvenience that may be due as a result of the required maintenance work.

A selection of Humanities databases will be undergoing vital maintenance this coming Saturday, April 2, and will therefore not be available for a number of hours. It is expected that this work will begin at 10pm BST and last for eight hours.

ProQuest, the provider of these databases, apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to some students and staff here at the University of Aberdeen, but we have been informed that this is important maintenance required to ensure the service becomes more reliable into the future.
We have received notification that Emerald Insight, one of our providers of numerous e-journals will be undergoing essential maintenance tomorrow, Tuesday March 22. This work will impact upon some of the functionality on their site, but you should still be able to gain access in “read only” mode.
This maintenance is due to begin at 08.00 GMT, March 22, and is expected to last for up to 12 hours. The following features will not be fully functional during this time:

Fortunately, many, but not all, of the titles on Emerald Insight are also available through the ProQuest platform, on such databases as ABI/INFORM Complete, Accounting and Tax, and others. So, when linking out to a journal article from Primo tomorrow check to see if it is being provided by Emerald Insight, and if it is also provided by another supplier please select that alternative.
Emerald, and ourselves, apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the maintenance is vital.

Please be advised that on Wednesday 16th March, Dawsonera will be temporarily disabling their download functionality of their e-books between 07:00 – 07:30 GMT whilst they conduct routine system maintenance.
All other functionality, including the ability to read e-book content online will still be available to users.
Hopefully the early and brief interruption to this service will mean that as few people as possible are inconvenienced.
