Potential noise disruption in The Sir Duncan Rice Library this week

The Library are installing new Self Service machines within the Sir Duncan Rice Library this week and this may cause some short disturbance to visitors.

This work will happen between Monday August 5 and Friday August 9.

This is vital work to upgrade the machines that allow users to borrow books from the Library. There may be some drilling while this happens. This work will be taking place across most floors of the building, at different times throughout the week.

If you are unable to find a machine to borrow books you can take the items to staff on Floor 1 of the building.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this but have timed this important work during the summer holidays to minimise the disturbance to our users.

Building improvements to cause some disturbance in The Sir Duncan Rice Library

We are currently repurposing some areas within The Sir Duncan Rice Library, and while this work is carried out there will be some minimal disturbance to users of the building. Some of the work is expected to run until the end of August. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

In the meantime, if you need a silent space to study why not use the silent study rooms in the southwest corner of Floors 3, 4 and 5? These rooms were recently equipped with power and USB sockets allowing you to work from your laptop in a silent environment.

Please also note that the Taylor Library is open 09:00 – 17:00 over the summer period. Taylor Library’s silent study areas are located in block ‘D’ on levels 1 and 2.

Room 124 – improvements coming

As of Monday 11 June there will be work taking place in Silent Study Room 124
(Floor 1) of The Sir Duncan Rice Library as we re-purpose the space, to make it better fit your needs. There will be some disruption as this work takes place, and for that we apologise in advance. We will do all we can to keep any inconvenience to a minimum, but the summer months are the only time when such work can take place. The exact timing of this work is still to be confirmed but we will put out further information via our social media once we have firm dates.

Improvements coming – power being installed in more Silent Study Rooms during Easter break

During the Easter break we will be installing power and USB sockets into three Silent Study Rooms in the Sir Duncan Rice Library which currently have no such sockets. There will, therefore, be no access to the West Silent Study Rooms on floors 3, 4 and 5 between now and Friday April 13.

In the meantime, please feel free to use the other Silent Study Rooms still available on floors 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The rooms on floors 1 and 6 do not permit the use of any electrical devices within them.

Once the work is finished we’ll have 60 additional desks across 3 further silent study rooms to better support access to online materials. Especially useful for the upcoming exams.

Apologies for the noise and for any inconvenience caused while this useful work is carried out.

Impact of planned maintenance at The Sir Duncan Rice Library this Saturday night

Due to planned building maintenance this Saturday night (4 October) the letter box available on the outside of The Sir Duncan Rice Library (TSDRL) for returning books will NOT be operational after 10pm.

Once the building work is completed overnight TSDRL will reopen on Sunday 5 October at the usual hour of 11am and the external books return facility will be functional again.

This maintenance work will have NO impact on the opening hours of the library.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this but we hope that by carrying out the maintenance overnight, while the library will be closed as normal, that as few people as possible will be inconvenienced.

Essential Work at The Sir Duncan Rice Library – w/c Monday 4 May

Advance notification: There may be some noise from the roof of The Sir Duncan Rice Library as Estates undertake some essential servicing of the Air Handling Units in the week beginning Monday 4 May.

We would like to make that the building is as comfortable as possible during this period of heavy use and apologise for any inconvenience the work may cause

Essential Work at The Sir Duncan Rice Library: Saturday 29 – Monday 31 March

Essential work to the entrance of The Sir Duncan Rice Library needs to be carried out on these days. The Library will be open as normal but work may last from 7am to 4pm and may be noisy.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to users of the building.

As alternatives for quiet study you may wish to consider the Silent Study Rooms in the south east corner of the Library, farthest away from any noise, or the Taylor Library in the Taylor Building (entrance on Floor 1 of Block C).

Access to the University Library is available again

Following a temporary closure the University Library has re-opened at 3.15pm on Tuesday 15th August. The library will be open until the usual closing time of 8pm this evening.

We apologise for any inconvenience. The closure was needed to allow contractors to investigate a malfunction in the equipment being used as part of the ongoing work on the façade. The situation has now been declared safe.

Access across Old Heating Station closed

Due to ongoing works in connection with the demolition of the Queen Mother Library, the path over the heating station will be closed between Academic Square and the QML car park – from 7.30am Monday 30th January until 5pm on Wednesday 1st February 2012. Sorry for any inconvenience this will cause.
